Synopsis: The tribal art of India is widely neglected. This one is unique in sense of its mechanism, character and existence. Chaador Bandhni, the puppetry art of Santhali Tribe is a variety of table puppet theatre prevailing among the Adivasis of Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand. The puppeteer performs in the open with a central rod fully covered by a cloth, accompanied by songs. It is believed that these puppet dances represents the first primate form of puppetry before the story telling in the epic tradition came into vogue.
